The brick shell of the 1,863-square-foot building was painted matte black, which "makes the roof float in a wonderful way and accentuates the white framing of the windows," says Ali.

Kim Moellenberndt and Ryan Tyner found their future home at a corner store built in the 1940s. The deal started with a handshake deal between the couple of the store's owner.

Located in L.A.'s Woodland Hills neighborhood, the home rests on a quiet street nestled among soaring trees. A tall fence bordering the property offers plenty of privacy.

The home's three levels are framed by large planters containing fruit trees and other vegetation. The custom block makes up all of the home's exterior walls.

The kitchen cabinets are made from a pressed wood-fiber product. The countertop and backsplash are Caesarstone.

The slats on the window offer solar protection and privacy. “Before the slats were installed, it really felt like you were just living on the street,” says Vanbesien.

A geometric glass entry gate leads to the rear unit, which comes with its own address.

The punchy-colored base of the kitchen work table is a note of contrast against the predominant green accents. The table was custom-designed by Mariana de Delás & 2Monos Studio.
